Chronicles of Khaldun: Bread and Circuses
The Shard of Evil
The Shard of Evil is a flaw in reality, or possibly the last remnant of a dead universe, that pushed its way into our cosmos. It emerged in the Elemental Chaos, and immediately started burrowing “downward,” with regard to its own eldritch and symbolic gravity. The “chasm” it created is known as the Abyss — the abode of demons.
According to legends, the Shard corrupted two gods and slew another (their names are lost to history, no doubt due to the corrupting influence of the Shard, although it is believed one of the corrupted gods fell and became Asmodeus, the lord of devils in the Nine Hells). In addition, the Shard is traditionally located on the 666th level of the Abyss, at the very bottom. It is likely a highly inhospitable environment.
