Chronicles of Khaldun: Bread and Circuses
Castow has stood for quite some time as a gateway to Vonseloth and parts beyond. An outpost maintained by an order of mercantile knights, the Ordo Fortis, Castow is a fortress and trading post. The town is run by the Council of Elders, seven senior male members of the Order of Fortune who dictate the precepts of the town. Members of the Council are nominated by the rest of the Order, and are Council members until death or resignation. The members of the Council are nominated by secret ballot, tallied by the acting Council members, and their identities are traditionally unknown. By ancient decree, lay people cannot enter Council chambers.
The fortress boasts a modest market, as well as an inn (the Drunken Bishop), and merchants come through town with regularity. Despite the fact the paladins and townsfolk tend to be a trifle insular around outsiders, travelers are welcome. Buildings are predominantly stone huts with thatched roofs, laid out on a grid.
