With Peacock soldiers at the barricaded doors, Ashraf, Khuna, Nobody, Resh, and Southie contemplate their options. Ashraf and Resh finish rigging their trap, and discuss the plan. The group will make a hole in the wall leading to the nearby alley. They have rigged the barricades to fall away from the rear exit as they leave. As the soldiers enter, they’ll trigger the deadfall trap.
With everyone in agreement, they get to work. Nobody and Southie manages to tunnel through the wall of the warehouse. Khuna runs outside first, running around to the front of the building and convincing the Peacock soldiers to go chasing after the interlopers — in the wrong direction. She then runs into a nearby alley and hides.
Ashraf, Nobody, Resh, and Southie exit after her. Ashraf triggers the barricade’s collapse, and the group moves away quickly as footfalls sound in the warehouse behind them, followed by the sound of the roof collapsing. Dust starts to waft into the alleyway and street.
Having had a path cleared by Khuna, the group moves into the street. With no resistance, they open a manhole cover and duck into the sewers. Seeing them again on the street, Khuna swiftly rejoins them and follows them down into the depths.
Meanwhile, Croitus has found a sewer access and wormed his way into it, wandering through the sewers to move unseen.
Ashraf, Khuna, Nobody, Resh, and Southie are moving through the sewers, they hear movement ahead. They brace for combat when Croitus moves into the diffused half-light. The group then presses forward, moving deeper into the sewers. The goal is to find the ruined district, clear across the city. Since she knows the city fairly well, Khuna decides to guide them while Ashraf keeps a lookout for any unwanted visitors. Unfortunately, Khuna is significantly better at navigating above ground, and so the group travels in circles for a while before anyone realizes the mistake.
The delay allows the group to run into one of the random guard patrols now searching the sewers. Croitus summons his undead gnoll and orders the beast to block the ladder leading up to street level. The others enter into combat with the guardsmen; although they call for backup, with one entrance blocked by a slavering gnoll, their fellows cannot join them in time, and they are swiftly slain to a man.
Ashraf and Resh quickly rig the ceiling to collapse and head in the opposite direction. A few moments later, they are well away from the scene of the battle and they are rewarded with a tremor marking the collapse of the deadfall trap. Khuna then manages to successfully retrace her steps and lead the former gladiators to the ruined district.
Peeking onto a deserted street, the group ascends to street level. Surveying the landscape, they quickly find an abandoned shell of a building, which they inhabit, preparing to rest and sleep for tomorrow’s confrontation with Negrescu’s Nagas and Lord Book.
